Wood

One of the most popular spectator events throughout the festival is the annual wood chop.

The Wood-Chop section is ran by the Western Victorian Axemen’s Association Inc. Featuring several stages of competition, festival goers can watch as competitors from the local area and interstate go head-to-head in a wonderful display of strength, skill and hard work. Who will win the major prize in this year’s wood chopping championship?

The Wood, Wine and Roses Championship

The major event in the wood chopping program is undoubtedly the Wood, Wine and Roses Championship. In 2024, this is a standing block event as part of the John Wills Memorial Standing Block. The event is sure to be hotly contested this year, as it always is.

Naturally, the main event is extremely popular with spectators, so when planning your day at the festival, make sure you don’t miss your chance to see who takes home the major prize.

The Victorian Under-18 Championship

Another popular feature of the wood chopping part of the festival is the Victorian Under-18 Championship. This standing block event carries points for which an aggregate prize applies at the end of the season. Come and see the best of the best junior wood choppers in the state.

Veterans standing block

Just because the competitors are over 60, don’t expect anybody to be taking a backwards step in the veterans standing block competition. This event is hotly contested each year and is always terrific for spectators.

Axe throwing

If wood chopping isn’t your thing, but you’d still like to check out some of the fun from this part of the festival, perhaps axe throwing is more your style. Competitors battle it out by throwing a double-headed axe at a target.

Regardless of which events you prefer, we can guarantee you’ll be impressed by the skills on display. Competitors travel from all over Victoria and even South Australia to take part, and the junior and beginner competitions are always well-represented.
